Reefix is a free browser-based tool for quick underwater photo and video cleanup. It is built for divers, snorkelers, action-camera clips, and trip photos where blue or green water has muted the original reef colors.
Reefix applies an automatic color correction that restores missing red tones and balances underwater color casts. It works best on photos and clips that are technically usable but look too blue, green, or flat straight out of the camera.
Use it when you want a fast, natural-looking cleanup before sharing or reviewing dive media. It is especially useful for GoPro footage, snorkeling photos, reef scenes, fish shots, and travel batches where manual editing would take too long.
Color correction cannot recover detail that was never captured. Very dark footage, heavy backscatter, blown highlights, motion blur, or subjects far beyond the camera light range may still need manual editing or may not improve much.
Photos and videos are decoded, corrected, and exported by your browser. Reefix tries to keep dimensions and practical file size close to the source for photos, but every browser export is a new file, so some encoding change is normal.
Photos: JPEG, PNG, and WebP. Videos: MP4, MOV, M4V, and WebM when the browser can decode the actual codec inside the file. MOV support depends heavily on browser and device codec support.
Reefix transfers compatible EXIF and metadata into the processed files. For photos, JPEG, PNG, and WebP metadata chunks such as capture date, camera details, color profile, and text metadata are copied when present and compatible. For videos, compatible WebM and MP4 container metadata is copied on a best-effort basis when the output container can safely carry it.
No. The correction happens locally in your browser using Canvas, WebGL, and browser media APIs. The site does not need an account or upload endpoint for processing. The server only provides the static app files.
Yes. Reefix is free to use. The main goal is feedback: real dive media varies a lot, and notes about browser support, export quality, confusing behavior, or correction results help improve the tool.
